Artist's Description

An eastern chipmunk (Tamias striatus) surveys his surroundings from the top of a rock in his New Hampshire foraging grounds. Chipmunks store the food the find in their burrows, which are often 10 feet long. They hibernate in the winter. But not storing fat like bears do, they sleep only 3-4 days. They then wake, eat, eliminate waste, and return to sleep.
