Description
The alarm sounded at 3am. Showered, had a simple breakfast, and packed a big thermos of hot coffee. Purchased and printed an Off Road Vehicle Pass from the website. Drove 90 minutes south to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Deflated my tires by flashlight to 18psi, shifted to four wheel drive, and drove the soft sand and ruts of Inside Road to Ramp 48 beach access, turning east at the waterline to the unrutted sand at the stakes denying further vehicle access. Bundled up against the windy January cold, I set up my camera and tripod and celebrated the dynamic sky and ocean as the sun crept over the horizon. Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Outer Banks, Frisco, North Carolina.
