Description
A Palamedes swallowtail butterfly (Papilio palamedes) in flight, in northeastern North Carolina. Butterflies do not have noses in the way that humans do. Instead, they have a long, coiled, tubular feeding structure called a proboscis. This proboscis is used to suck up nectar and other fluids from flowers and other sources.
