Description
A male Bufflehead (Bucephala albeola), in breeding plumage, taking flight from water in Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, Dare County, North Carolina. A bufflehead is a small diving duck that winters in the area. The name "bufflehead" is derived from "buffalo-head" for the male's odd puffy head shape.
